The Full Story
Lemon's is an Indie Rock band composed of four core members: Susie Hydrick, Luke Braswell, Aidan Stanford, and Jackson Williams. As well as our friend, Hooper Mattis, who joins Lemon's in live settings.? How and where did you get together? Susie, Luke, and Jackson have been performing together since 2015 as part of their High School's commercial music ensemble. However, they did not start Lemon's until 2020, recruiting bass player Aidan, whom Luke knew from church, and Susie knew from School of Rock, where the two took guitar lessons. What are the band's main influences? Lemon's is largely inspired by the bands Nothing But Thieves, Young the Giant, Paramore, and The Backseat Lovers. Have you played any notable gigs, festivals or other events? Likewise radio or TV appearances? While Lemon's started their string of Summer shows with a house show performance, they have since played at some of Memphis' most notable venues like Growlers and Hi-Tone. As well as Memphis' 33rd annual 'Cooper-Young Festival' and Blue Tom Record's 'This is Memphis Festival' in the Green Room at Crosstown Concourse. Lemon's also had their first live radio appearance on the Memphis station WYXR, October 14th, 2021. Shot for the Station 8 series the Hum, Lemon's has a three-song live performance filmed in 4k available for viewing on the Station 8 Youtube Channel. In addition to their performance, individual interviews of the band members are also features as part of the Station 8 Youtube post. Are there any other interesting or amusing happenings – no matter how small – that the band have been involved with that would be of interest to those who like your music? Lemon's Instagram followers voted on the band's slogan, "Take our music seriously, not us." This slogan is representative of the band's personality. Lemon's typically takes an angsty and vulnerable lyrical approach in their songs. However, as individuals, the band also has a passion for comedy. This passion is shared with fans through Susie's TikTok skits and the band's Instagram posts. Lemon's is also self-aware of the fact that their goal of musical world domination may seem overly ambitious, so they take that reality as a source for creating inside jokes with fans. Do you have any favourable quotes from previous reviews of the band that you'd be happy to share? "Who can lift you up in a wave of sound that makes you feel genuine happiness and upbeat excitement to then gently bring you down to an emotional sentimental feeling of self reflection and memories of what life can offer us? Well, you'll have to ask the young up and coming Memphis band Lemon's." - Bret Max CEO of Station 8 Where was the single/EP/album recorded and who was involved in its production? Lemon's first four singles were recorded at Young Avenue Sound in Memphis by studio engineer Calvin Lauber. Post production was handled at Luke's house by Luke and Susie. Lauber also mixed and master 'Sweet Sad Eyes' and 'Take It Back.' While, 'Call a Friend' and 'Unaware' were mixed and mastered by the team at Station 8. Is there a particular ethos behind the single/EP/album or any particular music styles or events that inspired it? Unaware was written by Susie, after receiving a phone call from her father, whom she had not seen in two years. Speaking with him made her realize how much happier she had become being on her own. Then, with some tweaking, she made the lyrics more open for people to relate it to stepping out of toxic, romantic relationships. Can you briefly describe what the song/each song is about? If you are releasing an album then either describe the thinking behind the project or choose a couple of lead tracks to focus on. Unaware serves as a wake-up call to an arrogant, oblivious ex that the narrator is over them. Were there any notable or amusing happenings surrounding the recording/production of the EP? As above, list whatever might be of relevance. Recording Unaware and Call a Friend was the first time the band felt they were truly developing a "sound." Please provide a one or two-line personal quote that can be attributed to a band member, about either the band themselves or the release. Obviously the more eye-catching this is the better. "Everyone knows how cool it is to be one of the first people to discover a band. Right now, Lemon's is at the stage where if you
